Morarka Foundation Initiatives in Organic Agriculture Development

Beginning of Public-Private Partnership

Rajasthan In 1995 we began with agri extension work in Nawalgarh block of Jhunjhunu district covering 10,000 farm families cultivating 25,000 hectare land. We identified increasing cost of cultivation as the most important issue affecting farming community.

Biotechnology Application in Agriculture

Biotechnology Application in Agriculture Beginning in 1995 pioneered vermiculture know-how as a tool for on-farm fertility management and to reduce the cost of cultivation. By 2000 Morarka Foundation became the single largest producer of vermicompost in the World; today we have already created over 5.0 million metric tones annual production capacities.

Beginning of Organic Farming

Beginning of Organic Farming In the year 2005, when we began promotion of organic farming, we were concerned about the success of this initiative and thus conducted many studies to understand "Why Organic Farming?" in joint collaboration with many National and International agencies and organizations.

Technology Development for Inputs

Technology Development for Inputs Initial focus was on development of organic inputs as a substitute to chemical inputs, with simultaneous objective to also reduce the cost of cultivation by 10 to 50 percent. We achieved reasonable success by developing organic inputs and practices for about 10,000 acres land area in two years to cultivate wide range of crops.

Development of Quality Control System

Development of Quality Control System We experimented with record maintenance procedures for meeting organic certification requirements. Subsequently, we developed an internal control system for quality management and certification. Starting from groups of 20 to 200 farmers, today over 250,000 farmers are registered under the IQCS. Over 50,000 of these farmers are also certified by International Certification Agencies like SKAL, IMO, SGS, Eco-Cert, OneCert, etc. as per NPOP-USA, NOP-India, EU-2092/91, etc.

Development of Organic Agri-business Value Chain through Entrepreneurship

Organic Agri-business Value Chain through Entrepreneurship We assisted entrepreneurs and private companies to join hands with us. Offered complete handholding support to professionals, scientists and farmers to initiate Organic Agri-business Value Chain Enterprises. Continuous development of organic certified areas have already brought in many private sector companies to join hands with us. Today production from over 10,000 acres certified and about 25,000 acres in-conversion land is under direct marketing tie-ups through us.

Professional Human Resource

Professional Human Resource To meet the requirement of professionals, we started professional courses for HR at managerial and supervisory levels in collaboration with MPUAT (Agri University), JNRV (Deemed University) and most recently with National Productivity Council (Government of India). These professional courses have trained over 50 PGDOAMs and over 100 Qualified Certificates serving over 50
